Salutations, Arcann. (Hmm, your name is familiarGǪ do you play EVE at all?).
Unfortunately, you've asked a very dangerous and self-destructive question. It's like a person having a bag of 20,000 dollars in the middle of the street, and asking out loud "what should I do with this LOAD of money I have in my hand?".
Dust isn't an easy game to get advice about what's "good" to start with. A good role (scout, attacker, medic)GǪwell, they really don't apply to Dust like they do in other fps games.
It's like Yoda saying, "you must UN-learn what you have learned in those other fps games".
You really SHOULD learn how to walk around a map safely as a player, learn what other players are stalking you with and how they kill you so fast. A player who learns how to get around the map without getting killed every 20 seconds, is going to become a great player REGARDLESS of what suit or role she builds for herself.
A Starter Assault dropsuit from Amarr or Gallente design will help cushion you with shielding/armour WHILE you are learning how to travel around the map safely and wisely. (Caldari suits, Minmatar suits, Scout builds, etc should be avoided until you've learned the techniques of fighting that these builds expect you to follow and specialize in).
But, Arcann, NO suit is going to protect you much. NO build is a "rugged" build that you can quickly slaughter other players with. You're in the middle of the street now, and a lot of players are going to start giving you advice about what to do with that bag of money. Their advice will be way different from mine (but most of the time, not BETTER than my advice)GǪ and before you know it, they will lead you down an expensive and frustrating path of failure. They aren't deliberately telling you wrong,GǪ they just aren't aware that they themselves make poor choices and poor builds.
But have fun, Arcann. Begin with an Amarr or Gallente Assault suit, experiment with its slots to try as many militia items as you can, but have fun and don't be discouraged.
Dust takes a lot of UN-learning to get through.
Universe of good wishes for the 49, especially CCP Eterne...
